Dapagliflozin is an antidiabetic medicine in the sodium-glucose cotransporter type 2 inhibitor (SGLT2 inhibitor) class.

Type 2 diabetes mellitus: Helps control blood glucose in adults alongside diet and exercise, or other antidiabetic medicines.

Heart failure: Reduces cardiovascular death and hospitalization risk in adults with heart failure, with reduced or preserved ejection fraction.

Chronic kidney disease: Helps slow kidney damage progression in patients at risk of declining kidney function.

How it works: Acts directly in the kidneys by blocking glucose reabsorption, allowing excess blood sugar to be removed in the urine. This effect also supports modest weight loss and a small blood pressure reduction.
